MIKE APPEL POWER AND INDUSTRIAL
In 2009, the Mike Appel Group was approached to become the sole distributor for Gesan products in Zimbabwe. This followed an extensive research by GruposElectrogenosGesan into the Zimbabwean market where they were scouting for a partner with the following among other attributes:
- Exceptional mechanical expertise to handle the technical requirements of key customers
- Capacity to distribute into Zimbabwe and a number of countries in the Southern African region
- Adequate financial capacity to carry back-up spares
- A good corporate governance structure.
Mike Appel is renowned for its long history of quality workmanship in the field of precision engineering dating back to 1948 when it was founded. These qualities made a partnership with Gesan possible. Gesan uses only genuine parts from the original manufacturers and all parts carry manufacturer warranties. There is stringent quality control at all stages of the manufacturing process done under the European certificate of approval. GruposElectrogenosGesan assembles the generators using components from original manufacturers such as Cummins, Perkins, Volvo, MTU, Mitsubishi for engines and Stamford and Mec-alte for alternators. This is of paramount importance to a customer in the Zimbabwean environment where substandard equipment has found its way onto the market. Most of the units come with a Deep-Sea control system that allows for monitoring of the hours and general upkeep of the generator via a satellite computer as long as it is networked to the machine. This also allows a user to programme the unit on when to start or stop running. It can be programmed for a whole year ahead. Effectively, this allows a user to have more control over the running costs associated with the machine as well as its general upkeep.
In 2013, Grupos Electrogenos Gesan was acquired by Atlas Copco. Later Atlas Copco was to restructure Internationally taking on distributors as its route to market in the various countries. Given its impeccable track record, Mike Appel was approached by Atlas Copco in 2017 to become the authorised distributor for all of Atlas Copco Power and Construction products. An agreement was reached and today Mike Appel boasts of a diversified Atlas Copco product offering as follows:
- Diesel generators
- Portable diesel compressors
- Dewatering pumps
- Hand-held pneumatic, hydraulic and engine driven breakers and rock drills
- Light compacting equipment
- Lighting towers
